TRIPOLI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Wednesday expressed concern over the disappearance of a doctor in capital Tripoli.

"UNSMIL expresses concern at the disappearance of Dr Siddiq Khalfallah Ben Della, a 66 year-old university professor, well-known orthopedic surgeon and deputy head of al-Khadra Hospital, who was kidnapped in '11 June District' in Tripoli, yesterday afternoon," UNSMIL said in a statement.

Dr Ben Della's car was ambushed and taken away by four armed uniformed men. "His whereabouts remain unknown," the statement said.

UNSMIL called for the immediate and unconditional release of Ben Della and expressed alarm at the "rising level of criminality across Libya at the hands of armed groups, who operate with impunity."

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Libya has been mired in a state of insecurity and chaos following the ouster and killing of its leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Enditem
