Two national first-grade museums added in Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On the evening of December 21, China Museums Association released Announcement on the List of the Fourth Batch of National First, Second and Third-graded Museums, including two museums of Chongqing. Chongqing Three Gorges Resettlement Memorial Museum (Chongqing Wanzhou Museum) and Dazu Rock Carvings Museum were listed as national first-graded museums. So far, the number of national first-graded museums of Chongqing has been added to 5, and national museums has reached to 23.

Before this grading assessment, there has been three national first-graded museums, namely Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, Chongqing Hongyan Revolutionary History Museum, Chongqing Natural Museum. All the three museums are in urban areas of Chongqing. The two new national first-graded museums are separately located in Wanzhou and Dazu.

Chongqing Three Gorges Resettlement Memorial Museum is the only dedicated memorial museum built in memory of millions of immigrants from the Three Gorges. It is also a important collection, conservation, research and exhibition center of historical culture and immigrant culture in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area. The collection of Dazu Rock Carving Museum mainly includes the remains of grotto temples in the wild represented by the grottoes (collectively called Dazu Rock Carving) and the collection of cultural relics. There are as many as 75 cultural relics protection units at all levels, more than 50,000 statues and 100,000 inscriptions. There are 673 pieces (sets) collections of cultural relics, including 6,489 pieces in fact.

China Museums Association carried the fourth national museums rating work during July to December this year. There were 74 museums rated as national first-graded museum, 221 rated as national second-graded museums, and 225 rated as national third-graded museums.
