Eight members from Chongqing Police Force returning home after finishing peacekeeping mission in South Sudan

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, Chongqing Police Force, the eighth Chinese peacekeeping police unit in South Sudan, successfully completed its one-year peacekeeping mission and triumphed with honor.

It is learned that a total of 10 members of Chongqing Police Force, China’s eighth peacekeeping police unit in South Sudan, returned home this time with eight members, while Liao Jie and Wen Yueling remained in the mission area to carry out their peacekeeping duties.

Chongqing Police Force on peacekeeping mission arrived in the peacekeeping mission area in South Sudan on December 16, 2019. Ten members of the Force were then sent on peacekeeping missions to four areas in South Sudan, namely Juba, Bor, Wau and Malakal. During this period, the Force completed patrols in refugee camps, humanitarian relief, community policing and case investigation. In particular, after the outbreak of COVID-19, the Force was widely praised for its experience in fighting the epidemic in China to help the peacekeeping mission area cope with the epidemic.

On October 31, 2020, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), on behalf of the United Nations, awarded the UN Peacekeeping Medal to all members of the eighth Chinese peacekeeping police unit in South Sudan in recognition of their outstanding contributions during their peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

Since 2001, Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau has sent 48 peace-keeping police to carry out peacekeeping missions in various UN mission areas such as East Timor, Liberia, Kosovo, Haiti, Cyprus and South Sudan. (Translated by Wang Huixin, Fathom Language Limited)
