KUNMING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Two scarlet finches have been captured in a video by a wildlife photographer in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The finches were sighted in a forest in the city of Mangshi under Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture on Jan. 17. The photographer also recorded videos of the two birds eating seeds in a tree.

Local forest ranger Huang Qibang said that eight scarlet finches have been spotted during daily patrol and observation.

The discovery of the finches shows that the biodiversity in Dehong is well preserved, said Zeng Xiangle, chairman of the bird watching association of Dehong's Yingjiang County, adding that over 710 kinds of birds have been spotted in the prefecture.

Scarlet finches have been classified as terrestrial wildlife under state protection, meaning they are beneficial or of important economic or scientific value. Enditem
