CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Standing on Qiansimen Bridge and looking to the direction of Yuzhong District, you will find that Daijiaxiang Footpath is next to Hongyadong. Starting from the garage entrance of Riverside Road, Hongyadong, about 50m away from the direction of No. 1 Bridge, it is Riverside Road Entrance of Daijiaxiang Footpath.

Seen from afar, the main road of this footpath is in the shape of multiple “zigzags”, winding around a steep slope. The upper exit connects the old block of Daijiaxiang, and the bridge on Riverside Road, extending to the Jialing River. This footpath is red in color and surrounded by green vines.

It is understood that, together with the surrounding landscape and other infrastructure, Daijiaxiang Footpath covers a total area of nearly 10,000 square meters. In particular, this footpath is about 750m long, and has a height difference of nearly 60m.

Such elements of old Chongqing as stilted buildings, ficus virens and ancient city walls along this footpath

The reporter came to the entrance of this footpath and ascended the steps.

The first thing coming into view is a small building with the appearance of a stilted building which is made of blue tiles and red imitation wood steel fences. Kang Chengshan, the person in charge of the construction, told the reporter that the distribution box was placed inside for the use of the Phase III of Jiefangbei Underground Ring Road Project.

Why a distribution room should be designed as a stilted building?

Originally, besides the city walls, there were many stilted buildings along Daijiaxiang Footpath. Due to the proximity to Binjiang Wharf, there were numerous teahouses, restaurants, warehouses and inns in the stilted buildings. Therefore, restoring the appearance of old Chongqing represented by stilted buildings has become an important content in the construction of footpaths.

Going up to the place about 400m away, you will find a cluster of stilted buildings consisted of seven small ones is high up in the air here, with walkways running through them. Above the stilted building, several ancient ficus virens and a 150-meter-long artificial city wall are well preserved.

Standing on the stilted building, you can see the bustling Hongyadong on right, and Qiansimen Bridge and Raffles City Chongqing on front right. What lies directly ahead is the high-rise Jiangbeizui Central Business District, and what lies on left front is the Huanghuayuan Bridge; and looking down, you can see the crystal clear Jialing River.

Keeping ascending steps, the reporter found that the floors and railings of this footpath were also exquisite. The railings on both sides of this footpath were mostly made from imitation wood steel material, the floors were mostly made from bamboo wood material, footpath corners were also paved granites, black bricks, and others. All these are in the style of “Old Chongqing”.

Many supporting facilities including coffee houses

The reporter also found that the supporting facilities along this footpath are also remarkable.

At Riverside Road Entrance of Daijiaxiang Footpath, there is a public toilet. In each small scenic spot along this footpath, there is a guide view. You can scan the QR code on the guide view to get the introduction of the scenic spot in Chinese, English and audio immediately.

It is learned that in the later stage, this footpath will also be installed with seats to be convenient for tourists, especially the elderly.

At the end of this footpath, namely, the old block of Daijiaxiang, there is also a coffee street, including over 10 stores covering coffee houses, Japanese dessert houses, Thai food restaurants and bars. White wall spaces and log chairs placed at the gate as well as green plants give person with idle and comfortable feeling, simple but elegant.

“The flow of people has been increasing in recent 3 days.” The owner of a Japanese dessert house told the reporter that he has opened the house more than a month, why he selected such place was that he took a fancy to its cultural deposits and landscape characteristics. “These elements of Chongqing, including the Jialing River, bridge and Hongyadong, have been popular online.”

Residents living in the old block of Daijiaxiang praised the convenience and comfort brought by this footpath. “Now I can walk on this footpath, and it’s more convenient for me to walk down to the riverside of the Jialing River.” Ms. Li, who has lived here for many years, told the reporter.

The reporter learned that behind the coffee street, the area that has been connected to the side gate of Guotai Square is also under renovation, including the construction and improvement of the former staff dormitory of the Public Security Bureau, Yuyun Company and other old buildings, and the new construction of two central squares, etc., which are expected to be completed and open to the public within this year.
