China's Ningxia treats 861 sq km of eroded soil in 2020

YINCHUAN, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Authorities treated 861 square km of eroded soil in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region last year.

Regional authorities managed to treat 4,400 square km of eroded soil during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), thanks to a variety of measures targeting soil erosion in the mountains, water, forests, crop-fields, and deserted and sandy areas.

The amount of untreated eroded soil in Ningxia still accounts for about a quarter of the region's total territory, according to Bai Yaohua, head of the regional department of water resources. Local authorities will continue to make efforts to treat the soil and avoid further erosion.

Ningxia plans to treat 800 square km of eroded soil this year. Enditem
