When the reporter arrived at Fotuguan Park at 11:00 a.m., the park was already crowded with visitors and raised their mobile phones to record the beautiful images of the “Train to Spring”. However, when the reporter interviewed several people at random, it’s found that people had different views on what species this kind of flower was. Some thought it was a peach blossom, some thought it was a cherry blossom, others thought it was a plum blossom, and there were even people who didn’t know what kind of flower it was.

What is the “internet-famous flower”? The reporter interviewed Ju Xueyong, head of the Park Management Section of Nanshan Botanical Garden Center, who introduced this as Meirenmei, a type of plum blossom. “The brightly colored flowers of Meirenmei are relatively dense, with hundreds or thousands of flowers on each tree. In the early spring, when the usual red and green plums have gone, Meirenmei makes its grand finale.”

Ju Xueyong said that Meirenmei was relatively uncommon in Chongqing in previous years, but in fact the climatic conditions in Chongqing are more suitable for planting this plum. Compared to the usual plum blossoms, Meirenmei is much better for ornamental purposes, although it does not have the common plum blossom fragrance.

It is learned that these flowers belongs to Yuzhong District Park Quality Improvement Project. Tang Huang, the person in charge of the Landscape Enhancement Project along Rail Transit Line 2, told the reporter that Meirenmei was planted from January to June 2019, with a length of more than 800 meters and a planting area of 20,000 square meters, from Fotuguan Station to Daping Tunnel on Rail Transit Line 2.

In fact, the plum blossom around the “Train to Spring” is in its third year. Tang Huang said that Meirenmei here has been in full bloom in the Chinese New Year in 2019 and 2020, and this year it is entering its third year with somewhat better results than the previous two, mainly because of the regular sunshine in Chongqing this year, which is ideal for the growth of Meirenmei.

Currently, Meirenmei is in full bloom in Fotuguan Park. According to Ju Xueyong, the blossom season lasts around 15 days, so if visitors want to enjoy it, they should take advantage of the beautiful spring weather to experience the “Train to Spring”.
