China's one-stop dispute resolution system takes shape: top court

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Over the past two years, a one-stop system that offers both litigation services and other alternative dispute resolution services has taken shape in China, according to the country's top court.

Qian Xiaochen, a senior judge of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), said at a press conference Thursday that the SPC has been making concentrated efforts in the building of the system since 2019.

The current system features both online and offline services, ensuring more efficient dispute resolution, Qian said.

As of the end of last year, a total of 13.6 million mediation cases had been handled via the platform of the system, and in 65 percent of the cases, the mediation proved successful, SPC statistics showed.

The SPC said that currently, 32,900 mediation organizations and 165,000 mediators are available in the system, covering the courts at all levels nationwide.

Furthermore, over 3,500 courts across the country are providing 29 kinds of online litigation services via WeChat. In 2020, over 10 million cases were filed and accepted online.

The judiciary was also wary of the need to bridge the "digital divide," accommodating the needs of senior citizens while developing IT applications. Enditem
