The film has earned 69.5 million dollars after 12 days in North America, becoming the highest grossing film of the COVID-19 era in North America so far as only 55 percent of all North American theaters are currently open, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore. The previous record was held by Christopher Nolan's 2020 science fiction film "Tenet," which grossed 58 million dollars in the United States and Canada.

Last week, "Godzilla vs. Kong" also broke the record for the biggest opening weekend in North America since the start of the pandemic.

The monster mash-up is the fourth entry in Warner Bros. and Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise. In the film, the two iconic silver screen behemoths meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

Directed by Adam Wingard, the film stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza Gonzalez and Julian Dennison.

Comscore data showed that the film added another 37.48 million dollars globally from 39 markets this weekend for a worldwide total of 357.8 million dollars to date.

"Godzilla vs. Kong" is also a box office hit in China. According to the box office data compiled by Maoyan, a Chinese movie-ticketing and film data platform, the film took in more than 1,080 million yuan (around 165 million U.S. dollars) after 17 days of launch on the Chinese mainland.

In a distant second place, Universal's action thriller film "Nobody" brought in 2.65 million dollars from 2,400 locations in its third weekend for a North American total of 15.62 million dollars.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller and starring Bob Odenkirk, the film follows an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband who helps a woman being harassed by several goons on a bus, only to become the target of a vengeful drug lord.

Sony's supernatural horror film "The Unholy" came in third with 2.4 million dollars from 1,850 locations in its second weekend, pushing its North American cume to 6.73 million dollars.

Directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos in his directorial debut and starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Katie Aselton, William Sadler and Diogo Morgado, the film follows Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As people flock to witness her miracles, terrifying events unfold.

Disney's animated action-adventure film "Raya and the Last Dragon" landed in fourth with 2.14 million dollars from 1,941 locations. The film has grossed 35.24 million dollars in North America to date.

"Raya and the Last Dragon" features a predominantly Asian American voice cast led by Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina.

A newcomer, Lionsgate's science fiction film "Voyagers," opened with 1.35 million dollars in 1,972 theaters in the fifth place.
