The activity “Intangible Cultural Heritages on Campus” at Southwest University

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Southwest University has recently launched the activity “Intangible Cultural Heritages on Campus” in Zhangshulin, South Area to preserve and pass on the intangible cultural heritages. The first-class inheritors of intangible cultural heritage of Chongqing came to the activity and presented a series of interactive performances of classic crafts such as sugar painting, dough figurine, pyrography technics of gourd and Shu embroidery to the students and teachers of Southwest University, bringing traditional culture “alive”.

At this activity, Rongchang Pottery, one of China’s four famous potteries, is also scheduled to meet with the students and teachers. It is learned that Rongchang Pottery, which originated in the Han Dynasty, is both ornamental and practical, and the Rongchang Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center of Southwest University, a joint venture between Southwest University and Rongchang District, was also on hand to showcase the production process of Rongchang Pottery and its exquisite artworks.

Grass cloth is a famous traditional handicraft of Rongchang, and its unique weaving process has been awarded as China’s intangible cultural heritage. As one of the first bases for the inheritance of excellent Chinese traditional culture by the Ministry of Education, a team of teachers and students from Chongqing Rongchang Grass Cloth Weaving Technique Heritage Base of Southwest University also demonstrated the process of making grass cloth and its exquisite artworks.

According to the relevant person in charge of Southwest University, the “Intangible Cultural Heritages on Campus” activity will protect and pass on intangible cultural heritages in a way that is acceptable and enjoyable for young people to participate in, and will help promote the understanding and recognition of traditional virtues and humanism among students and teachers.
