"Farewell, My Lad" from same director of hit drama "Sister" puts off release

BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- "Farewell, My Lad," a youth romance film featuring the same director-actress duo of the Chinese hit drama "Sister," has delayed its release in China, which was originally set for Friday this week.

The "temporary absence" is due to "technical reasons," according to an announcement made Tuesday via social media, which did not elaborate.

The new arrangement will mean an immediate competition between "Farewell, My Lad" and "Sister," both helmed by emerging director Yin Ruoxin and starring 20-year-old actress Zhang Zifeng, is avoided, as the latter's robust box office growth continues.

"Sister" continued its dominance at China's box office for a 12th consecutive day on Tuesday, with its cumulative revenue topping 688 million yuan (about 105 million U.S. dollars), data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.

The dark horse defeated American tentpole "Godzilla vs Kong" on its opening day on April 2, ending the latter's weeklong box office rule.

Box office tracker Maoyan forecasts that the film will complete its box office run in China with 900 million yuan, while "Godzilla vs Kong" is expected to hit 1.2 billion yuan.

"Sister" tells the intimate story of a young girl, played by Zhang, who has to choose between pursuing her own dreams and taking care of her little brother after their parents died in a car crash.

Overseas, the movie is set for release in Australia and New Zealand on April 22, according to CMC Pictures, which has brought many Chinese films abroad.

According to the updated film release calendar compiled by Maoyan, the number of new film releases set for April 16 has been decreased to four.

Among them, youth romance "August Never Ends," adapted from a novel by a popular writer known for her previous pen name "Anni Baobei," currently tops the Maoyan users' daily "want to watch" list. Enditem
