"Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet" leads China's box office

BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Japanese animation film "Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet" led the Chinese mainland box office on its first day of release Saturday, with daily earnings reaching 69.92 million yuan (around 10.71 million U.S. dollars), data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed Sunday.

As the 24th cinematic installment in the "Detective Conan" animation franchise, the film's plot revolves around the protagonist Conan's investigation into a series of kidnapping incidents following the opening ceremony of the World Sports Games in Tokyo and the launch of a cutting-edge bullet train in line with the event.

Chinese film "Sister" ranked second, generating over 27.93 million yuan on Saturday.

It was followed by U.S. film "Godzilla vs Kong," the latest installment in the cinematic MonsterVerse, which earned 19.71 million yuan.

Friday's top-grossing film "August Never Ends" fell to fourth place on Saturday, with daily revenue of 13.96 million yuan.

Ranking fifth was the re-released U.S. fantasy film "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," raking in 11.40 million yuan on Saturday. Enditem
