BEIJING, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Japanese animation film "Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet" continued leading the Chinese mainland box office on its third day of release on Monday, with daily earnings reaching 9.19 million yuan (around 1.4 million U.S. dollars), data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed Tuesday.

As the 24th cinematic installment in the "Detective Conan" animation franchise, the film's plot revolves around the protagonist's investigation into a series of kidnapping incidents involving the opening ceremony of the World Sports Games in Tokyo and the launch of a cutting-edge bullet train in line with the event.

Chinese heart-warming film "Sister" ranked second, generating more than 7 million yuan in box office revenue on Monday.

It was followed by the re-released U.S. fantasy film "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," which raked in close to 5 million yuan on Monday. Enditem
