The “Casual and Elegant” Team, composed of Liang Chen, a postgraduate student of Grade 2019 from the Key Laboratory of Data Engineering and Visual Computing of the College of Computer Science, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Zhu Honghan, a postgraduate student of Grade 2019 from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Liu Lu, an undergraduate student of Grade 2018 from Sichuan University, won the global championship on behalf of Chengdu-Chongqing Division with a bonus of 200,000 yuan in Huawei Code Craft for the first time.

2021 Huawei Code Craft is a top programming competition held by Huawei for college students from all over the world. On the stage of the Code Craft, students can fully demonstrate their ability of software design and programming, enjoy the fun of coding to solve problems, and feel the charm of software changing the world. The competition covered 8 divisions according to the region of universities, including three phases such as regional preliminary, regional semi-final and global final, and attracting 27,847 students from nearly 1,000 universities around the world to participate. Among them, four teams composed of students from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Sichuan University, Chongqing University and Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications stood out to compete for the global championship on behalf of Chengdu-Chongqing Division.

The topic of this Code Craft came from a production scenario that Huawei actually faced, namely the optimization of resource planning and scheduling on cloud, because excellent optimization algorithms can not only save hundreds of millions of operating costs for cloud operators, but also provide customers with a more stable and smooth cloud experience. The topic required participants to design complete scheduling strategies for purchasing servers, placing virtual machines, and pricing games based on different servers, virtual machines, and order requirements for a certain period of time, so that to reduce cloud operating costs and increase profitability. The “Casual and Elegant” Team won the first place in both the semi-final and final phases. In the pricing game of the final, the Team won the global championship with a profit of 600 million yuan more than the second place. (Translated by Zhang Ying, Fathom Language Limited)
