During this May Day holiday, tourists refreshed historical records in terms of travel, cost, travel time and other dimensions. According to data from Qunar, the average travel time of tourists during the “May Day” holiday reached 4.18 days, surpassing 3.83 days in 2019 and 4.06 days in 2020; while the per capita cost of 1,713 yuan also set a new record for the “May Day” holiday in recent years.

Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Chongqing and other cities were the most popular places for tourists. The per capita cost of air tickets and hotels in Chengdu reached 2,600 yuan, making Chengdu the city with the most per capita cost, while Chongqing ranked the fifth in the country for outings, with 2,181 yuan per capita cost.

With the improvement of people’s consumption level, the consumption scene is gradually changing from “daytime” to “nighttime”. During the May Day holiday, Qunar’s air ticket bookings increased by more than 30% and hotel bookings increased by more than 40% compared with that in 2019; and the bookings of air tickets and hotels on May 1 broke the historical records of the platform.

In addition, under the influence of the national highway free access policy during the holiday, the car rental market during this May Day holiday ushered in a round of outbreak. Compared with the same period in 2019, Ctrip’s daily orders of car rental increased by about 330%. Sanya, Chengdu, Haikou, Shanghai, Xi’an, Chongqing, Kunming, Guangzhou, Guiyang and Dali were the top ten popular car rental destinations during this May Day holiday.

This May Day holiday is the most popular holiday in the tourism market since the outbreak of COVID-19. According to analysis by industry insiders, with the acceleration of domestic vaccine popularization, the follow-up tourism market may maintain a strong growth momentum.
