China ramps up safety precautions for minors at hotels

BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security has put forward requirements for accommodation services providers regarding stays by minors, in order to prevent young people from falling victim to harmful illegal activities.

The requirements were put forward by the ministry as the revised Law on the Protection of Minors will come into effect on June 1.

The ministry requires hotels to verify and register the identity of minors when they check in, ask for the contact information of their parents or guardians, and verify their relationship with their companions should they have any.

Hotels are also urged to tighten up security measures and to register any visitors the minors may have. If they notice any suspicious activities, they are required to inform the police and contact the customers' guardians in good time.

Providers of accommodation services should maintain a high level of vigilance regarding incidents such as minors checking in with adults whose relationship to them is unclear, or receiving minors who appear to be wounded, drunk or barely conscious, said the ministry. Enditem
