Action blockbuster becomes Chinese daily box office's longest ruler

2021-08-26 15:16:06

BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- "Raging Fire," the last feature film by late director Benny Chan, has become the longest ruler of China's daily box office chart so far in 2021, replacing "Hi, Mom," the year's top-grosser.

Following its release on July 30, "Raging Fire" had ruled China's daily box office for 26 consecutive days as of Tuesday, breaking the 25-day record of the 2021 comedy by comedian Jia Ling.

Telling a familiar story of an honest cop clashing with a former colleague-turned criminal, the typical Hong Kong-set action film has received wide applause for outstanding set-pieces and excellent performances by Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse.

It currently has a rating of 7.5 out of 10 based on more than 200,000 reviews on review platform Douban.

Wednesday afternoon saw the film's ticket sales exceed 980 million yuan (about 151 million U.S. dollars), now ranking ninth on China's yearly box office chart immediately after "A Writer's Odyssey" that grossed 1.04 billion yuan. Enditem
