At present, the distribution center has a collection of nearly 4 million books.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- With the new semester coming, a batch of new textbooks will be available to students. Where do the books come from? How long does it take to deliver? This reporter recently went to the Logistics Distribution Branch of Chongqing Xinhua Media Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to distribution center for short) to find out. This distribution center carries the book distribution service in the city, including primary and secondary school textbooks, and has become the first “home” for books after publication.

Books will be allocated and dispatched according to the order volume in each region after they have been stocked.

Stacks of books are neatly arranged, and trucks are ready to be loaded. Coming to the distribution center, the reporter sees that there are many books here with precise classification according to the category and distribution area, and trucks to load one after another.

Liu Ting, head of the textbook section of the distribution center, tells the reporter that at present, the distribution center now has a collection of nearly 4 million books, of which nearly 1.3 million are textbooks to be sent out. "The textbooks are in a fast-in, fast-out mode and are stored separately in an area with a separate operating system because of the high volume of distribution each day."

Books are packaged and labeled with quantity and category.

Books arrive, enter into the system, sort and pack, leave the warehouse and load the truck... At around 10:00 a.m., 69 workers are busy on this assembly line.

Liu Ting says that every year before the start of new semester is the busiest time for the center, and the number of textbooks this autumn is very large as usual, with a total of 49 million. In order to ensure that the textbooks reach the students on time, there are more than 30 part-time workers with them to complete this difficult task.

"Textbooks can't be wrong, so we operate and monitor the whole process manually, count and check the books 3 times before loading, to ensure the number of books in each region is correct. And the whole process from book arrival to loading, we can finish it in 24 hours at the earliest.” Liu Tings says that in order to do a good job of epidemic prevention and control, books are also fully disinfected before entering the warehouse, and both staffs and truck drivers are registered with personal information and health codes.

Books are packed in a car and can arrive at the school as soon as the day they are delivered.

It is reported that after the textbooks are loaded, they will be deliver to 39 Xinhua Bookstore’s textbook depots, and eventually sent to more than 4000 schools in the city, for a total of 3.5 million students. Liu Ting says that all remaining books will be delivered within two days, and will arrive at the school on the day of delivery at the earliest. (Translated by Liu Sha, Fathom Language Limited)
