A school offers students fried sunflower seeds
CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Sunflower weavings, sunflower songs, sunflower-made bags, paintings with sunflower seeds... Walking into Xinghu School in Liangjiang New Area on the first day of school, you could see sunflowers everywhere, even at the opening ceremony, where you could actually eat sunflower seeds.
After a brief opening ceremony in the playground, students were excited to share the results of the Sunflower Thematic Program, with each class receiving a basket of sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds were fried on the site under the guidance of the teachers, and the fried sunflower seeds for younger students were prepared by students in Grade 5 and 6.
It is introduced that in March this year, Xinghu School opened up the roofs of five school buildings to plant sunflowers, totaling about 6,600 square meters and nearly 14,000 sunflowers, with each class having its own piece of sunflower field. At present, these sunflowers have produced a fruitful harvest.
On this occasion, the students fried seeds from the very fruit of the sunflowers they were growing at the time. “It was so much fun. We sowed the seeds in the spring and now we are harvesting the sunflower seeds. I was involved in the whole process and had fun working.” Liu Hongjin from Class 3, Grade 5, said she hoped to share the joy of this harvest with her younger siblings in Grade 1 who had just started the school year, “I wanted to show them our work.”
