BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. sci-fi action film "Free Guy" maintained its top ranking in the Chinese mainland box office chart on Saturday, figures released by the China Movie Data Information Network showed Sunday.

The movie, following a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game and decides to become the hero of his own story, raked in about 51.86 million yuan (around 8.03 million U.S. dollars) on its ninth day of screening.

Another sci-fi action picture "The Tomorrow War" came in second, ending the day with daily earnings of 21.61 million yuan.

It was followed by the domestic action film "Raging Fire," which added 16.38 million yuan to its box office total through Saturday. Enditem
