CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The reporter learned from the Chongqing Zoo, early September 13, Chongqing Zoo giant panda “Haoqi” gave birth to a pair of female and male cub, the first cub weighs 104.3g, female; the second cub weighs 168.2g, male.
In August, 2013, giant panda “Haoqi” was born in Chongqing Zoo, the fourth daughter of giant panda “Yaya”. Shortly after her birth, Nobel Laureate Ding Zhaozhong visited the zoo and named her “Haoqi”.
On April 22, 2021, “Haoqi” completed natural mating with male giant panda “Lulin” at the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center, three months after his sister “Mangzi” gave birth to twins. This is the second pair of giant panda twin cubs in Chongqing Zoo this year, and also the first birth of giant panda “Haoqi”.

Although “Haoqi” became a mother for the first time, she showed a strong maternal nature. However, due to the characteristics of the giant panda species, the natural nursing of 2 cubs cannot be completed alone, Chongqing Zoo invited experts from the Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center to the Zoo to on-site guidance and carry out artificially-assisted nursery as soon as possible. At this stage, the staff has been able to successfully complete the manual milk collection, cub replacement and other artificially-assisted nursery work, so that the cubs can get breast milk and defecate normally in a timely manner. Currently, the oldest weighs 232g and the second one 306g.
Chongqing Zoo began breeding giant pandas in the 1960s and began breeding giant panda cubs in the 1980s, and has a wealth of successful techniques and experience in giant panda breeding. As of September 2021, Chongqing Zoo has bred a total of 27 births of 40 giant pandas, including 11 twins and one triplet. Currently, Chongqing Zoo has a total of 19 giant pandas (including the newborn twins). (Translated by Wang Junli, Fathom Language Limited)
