A “rooftop farm” hidden in Chongqing’s 33-meter-high building

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- September 23 this year was the fourth Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival, and the farmers are embracing harvests all over the Chongqing countryside. And in Chongqing, the harvest of a special farm also attracted the attention of many netizens, and also got into the Weibo hot search. What’s so special about this farm?

It turns out that this is a “rooftop farm” located on the roof a 33-meter-high building in Meixin Group, Baihe Road, Chongqing Nan’an District. It covers an area of more than 20,000 square meters, which is also crisscrossed with crops such as rice, lotus, loofah, eggplant and pumpkin, and surrounded by more than 20 kinds of ornamental plants such as ironwood and betel nut.

Mr. Liao, the person in charge of the farm, introduced that these crops were planted by the company’s own employees. Each employee can apply for the “farm” land, the application was made after a successful lottery, and you can get a few square meters of land. “Each area of the farm has a sign to indicate its ownership, employees can use their free time to plant vegetables and other crops in their own land.”

“When this farm was first built, on the one hand, it was to create a green culture for the company and add fun to work for the employees; on the other hand, it was to add a beautiful scene to Chongqing among all those tall buildings.” Mr. Liao said that every year around September, the Farm will also conduct a harvest experience activity to make the employees feel the joy of harvest.
