Historical epic advance sales top 100 mln yuan as holiday nears
BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- "The Battle at Lake Changjin," one of the most anticipated new releases at China's box office for the upcoming National Day holiday, hit 100 million yuan (about 15.47 million U.S. dollars) in advance sales as of Wednesday noon.
The amount accounts for around two-thirds of the total preview and advance sales of eight new titles that are set for release around the weeklong holiday starting Oct. 1, and tracked by film data platform Maoyan.
Set in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953) and jointly directed by Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui and Dante Lam, the historical epic tells the story of the Chinese People's Volunteers soldiers fighting bravely amid freezing temperatures in a key campaign at the titular lake.
The patriotic anthology "My Country, My Parents" has garnered more than 40 million yuan in preview and advance sales.
Both of the films are set for debut on Sept. 30, the last business day before the National Day holiday.
The National Day holiday is known as a golden week for major cultural and tourism consumption and is usually a lucrative moviegoing period in China. Enditem
