Shorter autumn in Chongqing: only 70 days this year

2021-10-27 10:25:27

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On Monday, the weather got cold again, and many people plainted that “autumn in Chongqing is getting shorter and shorter.” Is this true?

According to the statistics of Chongqing Meteorological Bureau, autumn in Chongqing is indeed getting shorter and shorter.

In meteorology, the division standard of autumn is that the daily average temperature or the dynamic average temperature is less than 22℃ and greater than or equal to 10℃. When the annual dynamic average temperature series is less than 22℃ for 5 consecutive days, the first day with temperature less than 22℃ in the corresponding annual temperature series is the starting day of autumn.

According to the meteorological statistics from 1981 to 2010, it is found that most parts of the Chongqing have shorter autumn from 2001 to 2010 compared with 1981-1990. Among them, Fengjie, Yubei, Banan and other 12 districts and counties have shorter autumn for more than 10 days, the largest range is Liangping with 17 days shorter. In addition, according to the average autumn days of ten years, 15 districts and counties, such as Dianjiang, Qianjiang and Tongliang have even shorter autumn in the future. Although the number of autumn days in other districts and counties increased in 1991-2000 compared with 1981-1990, but the autumn days in 2001-2010 are shorter than those in 1991-2000.

Why does the autumn come later with shorter days in Chongqing? Tang Hongyu, a senior engineer at Chongqing Climate Center, said that under the background of global warming, the average temperature in autumn and winter in Chongqing has shown a warming trend in the past 30 years, but the warming rates in these two seasons are different. Comparatively speaking, the heating rate in autumn is slightly higher than that in winter, so the time of entering autumn in most areas is delayed, while the time of entering winter is relatively small, resulting in the late onset of autumn and the shortening of autumn.
