CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In recent days, the rare spectacle of soft rime appeared due to continuous low temperature and cold and humid climate of Chongqing Wuxi Hongchiba Xiliuxi Scenic Area.

Milky deposits of ice crystals, formed by condensation of water vapor in the air, hang on tree branches at Xiliuxi Reservoir. With the first ray of sunshine in the morning, branches and the earth are covered with a layer of crystal clear “frost” which is crystal clear and enchanting under the sunshine.

The soft rime, commonly known as ice flower, tree hanger, etc. is a milky ice crystals deposit of water vapor directly condensed in the air or super-cooled droplet frozen directly on the surfaces of objects at low temperature, which is a rare natural wonder. The formation of soft rime requires low temperature, and sufficient water vapor, which is very rare to have these two natural conditions simultaneously.

According to the local meteorological department, the soft rime at Hongchiba Scenic Area will last for more than 100 days every year, which is generally from late November to early April of the next year. As a natural wonder of Hongchiba in winter, the soft rime has become a special scenic attraction for many tourists. Tourists should note that there is snow on some roads up the mountain.
