2022 National U Series Weightlifting Championship kicks off in Banan District

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to the Chongqing Administration of Sport, the 2022 National U Series Weightlifting Championship recently kicked off at the gymnasium in Banan District, Chongqing. 339 athletes from 28 teams across the country gathered in Banan to compete for a total of 180 gold medals in 3 categories.

It is understood that this event is organized by the Sports Administration Center of Weightlifting, Wrestling and Judo at the General Administration of Sport in partnership with the Chongqing Administration of Sports, the People's Government of Banan District, the Administration of Sports of Banan District. The competition will run for 6 days. In accordance with the competition rules and regulations of the International Weightlifting Federation, athletes are divided into three groups: U14, U16 and U18 groups, based on their sexuality and age, to challenge each other in terms of snatch, clean and jerk performances, and the total score. There are Women's Weightlifting 40kg, Women's Weightlifting 45kg and Women's Weightlifting 49kg in a total of 12 levels, Man’s Weightlifting 49kg, Man’s Weightlifting 55kg, and Man’s Weightlifting 61kg in a total of 11 levels.

According to the schedule, 11 competition events including Women's U14 Weightlifting 40kg, Women's U18 Weightlifting 45kg, and Man’s U16 Weightlifting 49kg were completed on the first day of the competition. In the Women's U14 Weightlifting 40kg competition, Yang Liping, a 13-year-old girl from a sports school in Fujian who participated in a national competition for the first time, snatched 50 kg, jerked 61kg and totaled 111kg, winning two gold medals and one silver. After the competition, Yang Liping was quite satisfied with her overall performance, though believing that she could have had a better performance. She added there’s still room for improvement in the movement cohesion in her third attempt. In the future, she would enhance the training to achieve a breakthrough again.
