CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Summer seems to have come a little late this year, but the weather is no less scorching than ever. In August, the hottest month of the year, numerous large museums in Chongqing are fantastic spots to spend the summertime, where a great variety of fine exhibitions are on display. One of the fine exhibitions is A Sober Mind on Earth: Changsha Kiln Porcelain Boutique Show held on the 2nd floor of the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum.

Porcelain, a great invention from ancient China, is the fruit of the wisdom and painstaking labor of the Chinese people. A Sober Mind on Earth: Changsha Kiln Porcelain Boutique Show is jointly organized by the Three Gorges Museum and the Changsha Museum. The organizers introduce that the Changsha kiln dates back to about 1,000 years ago, mainly referring to the porcelain workshops around Shizhu Lake and the Tongguan Town in Tanzhou of the Tang Dynasty (now Changsha City). As the home of underglaze color porcelain in the world, the Changsha kiln has broken the old pattern at that time when there was only blue and white porcelain. Therefore, it also stands as a landmark of epoch-making significance in the spread of Chinese culture.

It’s joyful to visit a museum on such a hot summer day. When the reporter arrived on the 2nd floor of the Three Gorges Museum on the morning of August 1, he/she found that there were not many visitors in the exhibition hall and surprisingly, there was barely any noise. In the exhibition hall shrouded in coolness and quietness, hundreds of delicate and clean porcelain will gradually chase away your fidgets due to the hot weather. A total of 189 pieces/sets of Changsha kiln fine porcelain on display from the Changsha Museum are divided into five categories: “Tang Style”, “Color”, “Painting”, “Script”, and “fun” to showcase the charm of Changsha kiln porcelain that carries thousands of years of culture from different perspectives.

What interested the reporter most are several small pieces of delicate porcelain pillows. Covered with a thin layer of cool glaze, the porcelain pillow will cool and refresh your skin if you lay down your head upon it, bringing you a pleasantly cool summer. In fact, in ancient times when there were no air conditioners, electric fans or refrigerators, porcelain pillows were exactly what the ancient Chinese people used for cooling.

It is learned that the exhibition will be accessible for free until October 10. (Translated by Cai Xinyu, Fathom Language Limited)
