Recently, some netizens posted a video on the Internet, which first showed a sign of rail transit reading “Shichuan Station”, and then presented a desolate wilderness of grass and weeds outside the rail station.

Some netizens commented, “It looks the same as the previous Caojiawan Station, and it may also be completely different in a few years.” Recently the reporter visited the Shichuan Station located in the 2nd Phase of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 4 and found that there were a lot of passengers coming and going on the station, though it looked a bit desolate around.

The Shichuan Station: A “Desolate but crowded” station featuring a great number of people going to the market

The reporter came to CRT Shichuan Station, and it happened to be the market day. On the 2nd, 5th, and 8th day of every month, there are many passengers here who are going to purchase various kinds of daily items at a fair.

Due to the inconvenience of transportation in the past, not many people went to the market, except for the villagers living nearby the station. Since the opening of the 2nd Phase of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 4 on June 18th, whenever the market day comes around, the station is crowded with a great number of passengers living around the station and along Line 4, and even passengers coming from Jiangbei District and Shapingba District.

Grandpa Wang, who lives in Renhe Street, Yubei District, is one of those shoppers. He came together with a few friends today. “With easy rail transit, it takes nearly one hour to get to the market,” said Wang.

The easy rail transit provides far more convenient travel to both shoppers and those living nearby the station.

Gui Xinju, a resident of Shichuan Town, told reporters that they used to rely on buses, which usually took a long time and sometimes required a transfer. Now the time-saving and convenient rail transit has become the dominant mode of transportation for local residents.

“Although it looked quite desolate around the rail station, I believe that with convenient transport, the future development of places around here will be better,” Gui Xinju added.

The lively interest in the Shichuan Station today has reminded many netizens of the Caojiawan Station of CRT Line 6.

In 2015, Caojiawan Station located in Beibei District was once one of the most searched topics online due to its desolate scene around, and deemed as “the loneliest rail station”.

The past seven years have witnessed a radical change in the Caojiawan Station. Standing outside the station, the reporter saw that the desolate wilderness of grass and weeds had been replaced by high-rise buildings and wide, clean, and orderly streets.

Additionally, the supporting facilities around Caojiawan Station have been gradually improved. Less than 200 meters away from the exit of Caojiawan Station, there are two bus stops that not only bring a convenient transfer but also serve the travel needs of different citizens.

Because of these dramatic changes, Caojiawan Station received ample likes and praise on social media from home and abroad.
