2022-08-16 14:05:28

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The 113th press conference on the prevention and control of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Chongqing was held on August 12. Luo Fei, the chief physician of the Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) once again reminded the public to wear masks correctly and carry out self-protection measures.

Luo Fei explained that wearing a mask correctly is one of the effective measures to prevent respiratory infections, for it can protect the wearer from respiratory droplets that contain viruses and small particles produced when a patient person coughs, talks, or breathes. In the case of contact with an infected person, the risk of infection will be reduced if both two people wear masks.

Luo Fei reminded the public that the effectiveness of wearing masks was supported by the fact that the close contacts of COVID-19-infected people, who wore masks correctly throughout the entire journey on public transportation within Chongqing, were all uninfected.

In daily life, citizens ought to wear masks in the following situations:

1. In crowded indoor places such as shopping malls, supermarkets, cinemas, venues, exhibition halls, airports, wharves, and public areas of hotels;

2. In elevators and public transportation such as airplanes, trains, ships, coaches, subways, and buses;

3. In crowded outdoor places such as open-air squares, theaters, and parks;

4. When seeing a doctor or accompanying a patient in a hospital, having their body temperatures measured, showing health codes, or registering the information of travel history;

5. When showing signs of nasopharyngeal discomfort, coughing, sneezing, and fever;

6. When staying but not eating in restaurants or canteens.

Luo Fei added that in addition to wearing masks, washing hands regularly, keeping a safe distance from others, frequent ventilation, and avoiding mass gatherings are also effective measures to prevent COVID-19 infection. (Translated by Cai Xinyu, Fathom Language Limited)
