The heat in central urban area continues.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Since July, high temperatures have occurred frequently in Chongqing. The highest temperatures in many districts and counties have broken the records over the same period in previous years, and the average temperature of the whole city has even reached the extreme value of previous record for that period. According to Chongqing Climate Center, as of 17:00 on August 14, the temperature monitored by Chongqing Beibei national meteorological station was 44.5 ℃, which not only broke the high temperature record of the station (the previous record was 44.3 ℃, appearing on August 15, 2006), but also ranked the joint first high temperature in Chongqing since there were meteorological records. Many Chongqing netizens complained "unbearable".

Why dose the heat continue in Chongqing? How long will the high temperature last? On August 14, Chongqing Meteorological Administration gave a centralized answer to the questions about high temperature that the citizens were concerned about recently.

What is exactly high temperature? Suppose the measurement in instrument shelter to the exact

In meteorology, high temperature refers to the weather phenomenon that the daily maximum temperature reaches above 35 ℃. There are usually two types of high temperature. One is dry high temperature with low humidity, which is common in Xinjiang. The other is the muggy high temperature with high humidity, also known as the "sauna day", which is more common in Chongqing.

The high temperature cannot be measured by thermometer, and its data must be taken from the temperature of the air in the 1.5m high instrument shelter. The temperature in the instrument shelter is often mistaken as the sensible temperature. In fact, the sensible temperature is affected by humidity, wind speed, solar radiation, clothing, mood and other factors besides the air temperature. Therefore, the sensible temperature in summer is different from the high temperature measured in the instrument shelter.

How hot is Chongqing recently? Its average temperature has reached the extreme value of previous record for that period

According to the statistics of Chongqing Climate Center, from July 1 to August 13, the average temperature in Chongqing was 30.3 ℃, which was 2.4 ℃ higher than that of the usual year (27.9 ℃), and it together with 2006 ranked the joint first high temperature over the same period in previous years since 1961. The average number of high-temperature days in the city is 30.3, which was respectively 14 and 15.5 days more than that over the same period in usual years and the last year, and was the second most in the same period since the meteorological records (the most in 2006, 31.2 days).

During this period, the daily maximum temperatures of Shapingba, Beibei, Yubei, Bishan, Tongnan, Changshou, Liangping, Fengjie and Chengkou all exceeded the local historical extreme values in the same period. At present, the number of districts and counties’ daily maximum temperature exceeding 40 ℃ was 28. From August 4 to 13, the high-temperature weather above 40 ℃ in 18 districts and counties lasted 5 to 10 days, and the range and intensity of high-temperature weather were second only to 2006, which ranked first in history.

Why the heat lasts so long? Subtropical high is the “Operator”

The formation of high temperature is often caused by specific weather systems, and the most typical one is the subtropical high (hereinafter referred to as "SH") with the title of "high temperature messenger". In the area under its control, downdraft prevails. On the one hand, air subsidence will compress and increase temperature. On the other hand, the ascending movement is to weak too form clouds and cause rain easily. Therefore, it is often dominated by sunny and partly cloudy days with high-temperature weather. If the subtropical high is strong, drought and other disasters may occur.

According to Hu Chunmei, chief forecaster of Chongqing Meteorological Station, the subtropical high intensity this summer is exceptionally strong and stable in the mid latitude region, controlling the Sichuan Basin and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Under the influence of the "SH", Chongqing continues to be sunny and hot, and the number of high-temperature days is significantly more than that in previous years.

When will the high temperature be relieved? There is no hope in 10 days

It is expected that Chongqing will continue to maintain a wide range of high-intensity high-temperature weather in 10 days from August 14 (August 14 to August 23). The daily maximum temperature in most areas will reach 37-41 ℃ and in some areas it can reach 42-44 ℃, and the high-temperature weather above 40 ℃ in the river valley area can last 6-8 days. The minimum temperature in the central urban area is 29-33 ℃, and the maximum is 39-43 ℃.

After August 23, the high-temperature days will continue, but the extreme high temperature is slightly lower than that in the previous days. The daily maximum temperature in most areas is 35-39 ℃, and the in some area is above 40 ℃.

The high temperature record has been broken? It has been reached, and the historical extreme value of the same period may be exceeded

As of 17:00 on August 14, the temperature monitored by Chongqing Beibei national meteorological station was 44.5 ℃, which not only broke the high temperature record of the station (the previous record was 44.3 ℃, appearing on August 15, 2006), but also ranked the joint first high temperature in Chongqing since there were meteorological records.

It is expected that the daily maximum temperature of some districts and counties in the central and western regions and the northeast will approach or exceed the historical extreme value of the same period in 10 days from August 14 (August 14 to August 23).

At the same time, it is estimated that from July 1 to August 23, the average number of high-temperature days in the city may reach 37.8, 17 days more than the same period of usual year, close to the extreme value of the same period since the meteorological records (38 days in 2006).
