CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In the past few days, the maximum daily temperature in Chongqing has exceeded 40℃. In order to ensure the security in using electric power in the city in summer, electric power workers have worked “in the sky” or “under the ground”, and bore “the test of the sweltering heat” to guarantee a cool summer for thousands of families.

Although the surface temperature of steel under the scorching sun has exceeded 70℃, the “doctors for electric power” still carried out live-wire working with high-voltage lines at a high altitude. They either lay down, stood, or bent down to carefully replace the insulators for the power tower so as to keep the power lines running properly.

Live-line working is not easy, as any carelessness may result in an electric shock hazard. But it will not affect the municipal power supply to the maximum extent.

As long as the conditions are satisfied, live-line working will be the best choice. The airtight insulated gloves and insulated clothing are indispensable “combat suits”.

Normally, after working at high for 2 hours on end, the clothes of the workers would be completely wet by sweat. The sweat poured down like rain when the rubber gloves were removed.

The worker poured a bottle of mineral water over his head to lower the body temperature quickly and relieve himself from summer heat. Since June 15, live-line working has been carried out 400 times in the city, with electric power supply uninterrupted.

On the ground, the electric power workers made an inspection tour and stood by 24 hours day and night. With the utilization of unmanned drones combining with manual operation, more than 300 “pilots” carry out inspections on power grid using a drone every day. Each worker inspects more than 20km of routes daily.

In order to avoid disturbing the residents and power cut to the most extent, it is best to carry out implementation and maintenance at night in case of any power line or equipment failure. It is because the consumption of electric power is least and the temperature is relatively low during the night.

In the early morning of August 11, the inspection staff performed defect elimination treatment to the capacitor in the 110kV substation on the main road. Their backs were soaked with sweat after 3 hours of urgent repair.

Since this summer in Chongqing, more than 2,000 workers have carried out examinations and maintenance more than 200 times at midnight, eliminating 238 defects and hidden dangers of various types of equipment.

Like “Tu Xingsun”, they worked in a small space underground and faced the test of hot and humid air as well as toxic gas.

According to statistics, nearly 300 workers walked through the cable tunnel every day during the summer peak. Each worker made an inspection tour about 4 to 5 kilometers on foot.

Faced with hot summer days, they did not hesitate to work high in the sky or work underground. In order to guarantee safe and reliable power supply in the city, this group of “power guards” stood by 24 hour and ran in the front line of power supply day and night.
