2022-08-23 13:27:17

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The drought is hitting Chongqing, affecting the lives of 880,000 people and putting 300,000 people in need of living assistance, according to the official statistics. The fighting against the drought has began in many districts and counties, and the following photos were captured by the reporter in the forefront of drought relief and water supply.

1

Fenglin Village in Hechuan District has been short of water since August 8. “Come back to receive water,” a cry from the distance drew Su Renyong’s attention. The truck for water delivery in the street had already arrived in the doorway of his house. Since most of the villagers are left-behind elderly, the water delivery truck reach the doors of their houses every time. Therefore, villagers can get water without leaving their homes.

At the same time, in Gaoshi village, Qiantang Town, not far away, a group of heroes were working overtime to build pipelines.

Crops have also been “thirsty” due to days of high temperatures and dry weather, and they cannot wait to get watering. The local water conservancy department in Qiantang Town has successfully guaranteed the local supply of vegetables by delivering water from the reservoir to help farmers irrigate their vegetables.

People in Wulong District, which is more than 170 kilometers away from Hechuan District, have also been struggling to fight against the drought. Due to its geographical location, Bangshang Group, Shuangheyuan Village in Yajiang town is always suffering from water shortage. Unsurprisingly, the local people and animals have been out of drinking water due to the continuous high temperatures in recent days.

5

To alleviate the shortage of drinking water, Liu Zhongcheng, the secretary of the village party branch, has tried every possible way to look for water, borrow water... Finally, after knowing the situation, a local water plant offered 4 buckets of drinking water to each villager of Bangshang Group for free, and Liu Zhongcheng felt relieved the moment he lifted the bucket.

6

Liu Zhongcheng carried, transported and delivered water by himself. In the high temperature of 40℃, he was working away without a rest in the afternoon. It was not until the moment he guaranteed every villager had received water that he raised his arm and wiped the sweat off his face.

7

After delivering water, Liu Zhongcheng didn’t stop for a rest. Instead, he rushed to Masangping Group and helped local villagers build pipelines.

8

Masangping Group has been suffering a desperate shortage of water due to the extremely hot weather in recent days. Under the leadership of the village cadres, the local villagers took action and explored different ways to urgently build an emergency pipeline to receive water from Fuling. After the pipeline is successfully completed and connected, it will solve the problem of drinking water for the whole Masangping Group.

The stories of the “drought fighters” are far more than these. They are striving to ensure sufficient water supply for the local residents all over Chongqing.

10

At present, 2,763 vehicles have been involved in delivering water to 236,000 people who were in need of water; the pipeline extension of 435 kilometers has relieved 43,000 people from water shortage; 107 new water sources have been developed to provide 13,000 people with sufficient water; other measures such as water supply in turn have been taken to guarantee water supply for 66,000 people. Overall, water supply in both urban and rural areas of Chongqing has been guaranteed. (Translated by Cai Xinyu, Fathom Language Limited)
