The first public parking lot below bridge in Yuzhong District of Chongqing has been completed.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The shortage of parking spaces and the chaotic parking of vehicles have caused many people to complain. But, what can we do to relieve the problem? The reporter recently learned that the newly built Chongqing Yubo Jiahua Public Parking Lot Project below the south end of Jiahua Bridge has opened for trial operation. The construction of this parking lot is to effectively utilize the space below the overpass and is the first one in Yuzhong District. It can not only ease the parking problems in the surrounding residential areas and commercial areas, but will also facilitate the transfer of citizens to and from the Huacun Station of Line 9.

The newly-built Chongqing Yubo Jiahua Public Parking Lot below the south end of Jiahua Bridge is adjacent to the Huacun Station of CRT Line 9, Chongqing Corporate Avenue and Linjiang Jiayuan Community. The total area is about 10,409 square meters. The parking lot provides a total of 230 parking spaces and two entrance and exits and implements a fully automatic intelligent toll collection system. The project was completed at the end of May this year and began to open for trial operation in late June.

"The under-bridge area formerly is a green space. Because there are many roads around, people rarely take a walk under it." said Ms. Liu, who lives in Linjiang Jiayuan Community. In recent years, there have been more residents buying cars in the community, and parking has become a problem. The parking fees in the surrounding commercial area are relatively high, so unlawful parking started. The situation remained unchanged despite of management and repeated prohibitions.

In order to maximize the benefits of under-bridge space, public parking lots have emerged. According to the person in charge of Chongqing Yubo, this parking lot is the first public parking lot below bridge in Yuzhong District. Its construction makes full use of the space below the bridge, which has obviously relieved shortage of parking spaces currently. At the same time, the parking lot did not harm the original environment. With the completion of the project, the green area below the bridge increased from 1,274 square meters to 3,023 square meters, which was significantly better than that before the project construction.

The person in charge also mentioned that the parking lot will continue to add dozens of charging piles for new energy vehicles and become a charging venue for new energy vehicles and a centralized parking point for shared cars.

The reporter also learned that many districts in Chongqing have used or are using the space under overpasses to construct or renovate parking lots, such as the Shipingqiao Overpass Parking Lot in Jiulongpo District and the Shixin Road Overpass Parking Lot, etc. The space resources under the bridge have played a very good role in alleviating the existing parking difficulties.
