CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the 2nd Chongqing Small Oil Painting Exhibition in 2021, co-sponsored by Chongqing Oil Painting Society and Southwest University, was unveiled at Southwest University Museum.
What is a small painting? It is understood that the rise of small oil painting originated from “Dutch school of small painting” in the 17th century. Due to the small size of a painting, it is particularly delicate and beautiful.
Professor Weng Kaixuan, President of Chongqing Oil Painting Society, introduced that the 2nd Chongqing Small Oil Painting Exhibition in 2021 will be adopted a combination of invitation system for a few works and selection system to determine the participating works. On the basis of adhering to the academic guidance, 328 works were selected from many submitted works and 15 outstanding works were awarded by the Judging Committee composed of senior oil painters such as Pang Maokun and Hou Baochuan. This is also the first time to set up an award of excellence since the establishment of the exhibition.
Pang Maokun, Chairman of Chongqing Artists Association and President of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, said that how it inherits and develops itself is an important topic in today’s times when oil painting, as a traditional art form, faces the impact of new media. He believed that this Exhibition and Chongqing Oil Painting Biennale just provide a platform and basis for discussion on this topic, and “it is worth our serious thinking to find some ideas and clues to solve the problem.”
This Exhibition will be on display at Southwest University Museum and the Fine Arts Museum of the School of Fine Arts of Southwest University until April 16. (Translated by Liu Hongyan, Fathom Language Limited)
