More than 1.2 million rare and endemic fish released to the Yangtze River

The mullets, Grade II protected wild animal, were released to the Yangtze River during the artificial propagation and artificial releasing activities.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, Chongqing Forestry Bureau and Chongqing Agriculture and Rural Committee held a propagation and releasing activity for rare and endemic fish in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in Tongguanyi, Jiulongpo District.

More than 1.2 million rare and endemic fish were released to the Yangtze River during the artificial propagation and artificial releasing activities.

According to the reports, more than 1.2 million fish of 6 species were released during this propagation and release activity, including Grade II protected wild animals and endemic fishes of the Yangtze River.

To further enhance the ecological concept and arouse protection awareness of all sectors of society, Yao Weizhi, a professor at the Department of Fisheries in Southwest University before releasing fish, also explained the popular science knowledge of rare and unique fish, and emphasized on the importance of propagation and release activities. Yao said that the released fry will contribute to the recovery of fish population and the improvement of community structure in the Yangtze River waters, as well as the restoration of aquatic ecology.

The mullets released into the Yangtze River marched in groups.
