CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Street-side marginal land, unused land, dirty land, has now been transformed into all sorts of beautiful small playgrounds and mini park.

Chongqing’s key projects for people’s livelihood in 2021 – “Street Green Space Quality improvement” has made more street green space casted “Green Magic” by the “Flower Fairies” and “Green Elves”, becoming the new landscapes and the new paradise for the public in Chongqing.

According to the plan, Chongqing will spend three years to implement 500 “Street Green Space Quality improvement” projects, covering an area of 5 million square meters. Among them, 200 projects will be implemented in 2021, with an area of 2 million square meters in total.

Chongqing Morning Post reporter learned that, as of May 25, “Street Green Space Quality improvement” for people’s livelihood has been implemented to complete 68 projects, covering an area of 833,400 square meters.

Wasteland turned into “sponge”

The first sponge city park has been built in Jiulongpo District

How to improve the quality of street green space? Let’s take a stroll to the recently unveiled Blood Center Theme Park in Jiulongpo District to find the answer.

The Park is located next to the Chongqing Blood Center on Huafu Road in Jiulongpo District, with a construction area of about 4,000 square meters. “It used to be a wasteland, but I never thought it would turn into such a beautiful park.” Auntie Wang, who lives nearby, said that the wasteland was right next to the road. She passed by a lot, but she didn’t want to even look at it. Now, the walking paths and the park is integrated ingeniously, and Auntie Wang walks into the park without realizing it every time she passes by.

It is worth mentioning that the Blood Center Theme Park not only has the function of flower viewing, leisure and entertainment, but also can “breathe” like a sponge, and is the first sponge city park in Jiulongpo District.

The Park gives full play to the storage, infiltration and mitigation of rainwater by roads, green spaces and water bodies, effectively controlling rainwater runoff, achieving natural storage, infiltration and purification, so as to realize no waterlogging in light rain and no flooding in heavy rain.

“The Blood Center Theme Park is a typical Street Green Space Quality Improvement Project,” said the relevant person in charge from Urban Management Bureau of Jiulongpo District. One of the specific practices of “Street Green Space Quality” is to clean up and improve the corner of the street, unused land, dirty land, through the street greening and beautification, improve the quality of green space. At the same time, in areas with benefits, it can also be integrated around the green space, to create ecological and beautiful landscape, functional small gardens or centralized open mini park, expand the green space, and improve the overall quality of green space.

Open space turned into playground

Anti-war culture reaches residents’ doorsteps

At Xiejiawan Main Street entrance of Chongqing Museum of Jianchuan, Urban Management Bureau of Jiulongpo District made use of open space to implement a greening and landscape renovation project with both “culture” and “function”. Today, it has been transformed into a street garden with an area of about 900 square meters.

The Park is themed with “anti-war culture” and highlighted through the installation of artillery shell displays, landscape corridors, and screw-cap-shaped special tree pools and benches in the park.

At the same time, there is a “city station” in the park to provide services for the public, adding recreation and leisure functions. The garden is also planted with cherry blossoms, violet, vine moon, spring azalea and other flowering plants, red maple, red-leaved heather and other foliage plants, so that the landscape here is rich in plant varieties.

It is learned that Jiulongpo District plans to implement seven landscaping construction projects this year with a total construction area of about 144,800 square meters. At present, some of the projects have already started preliminary work, and all projects are expected to be completed by the end of this year. (Translated by Wang Junli, Fathom Language Limited)
