Five athletes of Chongqing shortlisted for Chinese delegation to Tokyo Olympics

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the General Administration of Sports of China released the list of the Chinese delegation for Tokyo Olympics. Two Chongqing-born players, Shi Tingmao and Yuan Xinyue, have been selected to represent China in diving and women’s volleyball respectively. In addition, three players, Zhao Shuai, Liao Qiuyun and Chen Lijun, who are studying at the School of Physical Education of Southwest University, will also be going to compete in Tokyo.

The list released by the General Administration of Sport shows that 431 athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics are from 28 provinces, including 33 athletes from nine ethnic groups such as Manchu, Mongol and Hui, with an average age of 25.4 years. Of these, 138 have participated in the Olympic Games, accounting for 32.02% of the total number of Chinese athletes.

Both Chongqing-born athletes are renowned players: Shi Tingmao won gold in the women’s double three-meter springboard and women’s three-meter springboard at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and Yuan Xinyue won the gold medal in women’s volleyball with the Chinese women’s volleyball team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games .

Zhao Shuai, for his part, is the champion in the men’s 58kg taekwondo category at the 2016 Rio Olympics; Liao Qiuyun is seeded in the women’s 55kg weightlifting category; and Chen Lijun will also represent the Chinese men’s weightlifting team. (Translated by Wang Huixin, Fathom Language Limited)
