Jinkou Industrial Park of Shapingba District, Chongqing

    Shapingba District with a solid industrial foundation boasts 250 industrial enterprises above designated size, including 46 large and medium-sized enterprises like Lifan Group and Cummings. The total number comes third in the city.

    Its industry comprised of 26 main categories and 79 subcategories covers a complete range with development platforms like the Xiyong Micro-electronics Industrial Complex, the Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the supplementary area of the Taiwan-funded Information Industrial Complex, the West Modern Logistics Complex, the Shapingba Industrial Complex and the Science Complex of Chongqing University.

    The rising high-tech industry has also shaped the three pillar industries of the district, electronic information manufacturing, transportation equipment manufacturing and general equipment manufacturing.

    Sparing no effort in promoting structural adjustment and industrial upgrading, Shapingba District realized a GDP of 65.81 billion yuan in 2012, with a year-on-year growth of 17.3%, which ranked second in the city and first out of the 9 main urban districts.

    Electronic information industry became a new pillar of the district's economy after well-renowned IT enterprises like HP, Foxconn, Quanta and Inventec among others built their plants there and went on releasing production capacity, which also attracted 20 accessory production enterprises to come.

    In 2012, Shapingba District's annual production of laptop computers exceeded 312.6 million units with the output value of the electronic information industry constituting 72.5% of the above-scale industries' total which is over 131.9 billion yuan.

    Meanwhile, in the district, traditional industries were upgraded through innovation; the number of patents was foremost in the city; vehicle production industry grew from scratch; business trade and modern service industry advanced steadily; the business circle centering on Three Gorges Square developed into "ten-billion-yuan scale"; the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 28.09 billion yuan; and industries like modern logistics, cultural creativity and R & D design were being fostered as well.

    As an inland opening window and an important port of Chongqing, Shapingba District is going all out to promote Chongqing University Town, the Xiyong Microelectronic Industrial Complex, the West Modern Industrial Complex and the Taiwan-funded Information Industrial Complex.

    It boasts the city's external logistics corridors, such as the central railway container station and the railway marshaling station in the West Logistics Complex as well as the Yuxin'ou International Railway.

    And the Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone covering an area of 10.3 square kilometers attracted 10 Fortune 500 companies to invest in. In 2012, the district utilized 1.37 billion US dollars of foreign investment and achieved a total import and export volume of 18.98 US dollars.

    To balance urban and rural development, Shapingba District expanded urban planning land from 128 to 180 square kilometers and urban built-up areas from 62 square kilometers to 89 square kilometers with its urbanization rate standing at 84.1%.

    The employment service system for both urban and rural areas was also established in the district through propelling national pilot employment programs and vigorously nurturing micro enterprises.

    Statistics show that in 2012, the urban unemployment rate was 2.21%; the per capita disposable income of urban residents reached 24,598 yuan; the per capita consumption of urban residents was 21,857 yuan; and the per capita net income of rural residents was 11,718 yuan.
