Aunt Kong, an female porter

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In Shihuishi Farmer’s Market, located at Jiaochangkou, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, some female porters walk through with heavy cargo.

“I have worked as a porter for nearly 10 years. It’s hard but free,” Aunt Peng said. Peng is 56 years old, the senior and the oldest one amongst the group. According to Peng, there are 8 female bearersat the market, all over 40 years old. The work is hard, but they are optimistic. Aunt Peng said that she comes to the market at 6 a.m. every day, and stays there until 6 p.m. Transporting vegetables for nearby restaurant is her work. She has some fixed customers due to her long tenure at the market.

Because of the age limitation and the freedom of this job, these ladies have chosen to stick it out. “Bearing some cargo every day is a form of exercise,” Peng smiled and said. (Translated by Li Li, Fathom Language Limited)
