CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Handan Dream – a Kunqu opera directed by Shanghai Kunju Opera Troupe (SKPT), as one of the highlights at the 4th China Chongqing Culture and Arts Festival, will be put on the stage at the Guotai Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on November 15th, 2013.
The same as Peony Pavilion, Handan Dream is also one of the Four Linchuan Dreams, a famous collection of Tang Xianzu. The drama displays the typical life journey of intellectuals in the later period of one thousand years of Chinese feudal society.
Qunqu opera has been the model of other Chinese operas in terms of tradition inheritance. SKPT has developed 8,000 VIP members and 85% of whom are youth, females around 35 years old taking up the major part. Kunqu opera, of a 600-year history, is enjoyed by more young audiences.
