GAZA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- About 12 Palestinians were killed and more than 10 injured Wednesday by Israeli air strikes on the coastal enclave, medics said.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of Gaza health ministry, said that 12 Palestinians were killed and more than 10 others injured in the non-stopped Israeli war jets' air strikes on the Gaza Strip.

He said that in the latest Israeli air strikes on the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, three people were killed including a child, his brother and an old woman.

"They were inside a car and their bodies were brought to the hospital," said al-Qedra, adding that the death toll since July 8 has climbed to 208 and more than 1,500 injured.

Meanwhile, the efforts on reaching a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza Strip militants were renewed on Wednesday after reports said that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas headed to Egypt to discuss a truce in the territory.

Media sources said that Abbas would meet with Hamas movement's chief Khaled Meshaal and Hamas top leader Musa Abu Marzooq in Cairo to study an initiative presented by Egypt to ceasefire and stop the fighting in Gaza.

Earlier on Wednesday, local residents said that Israel informed the residents of two neighborhoods in Gaza city Sheja'eya and Zaytoon and the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia to evacuate.

Israeli media reported that the Israeli army intends to destroy thousands of houses in the three areas that are closed to the borders with Israel because there are so many tunnels were dug underneath these houses.

No comment was available from Hamas movement's leaders and leaders of other militants groups on the Israeli decision to force the populations to evacuate their neighborhoods.
