Chongqing Lightrail Line 2 adopted monorail technology.

Chongqing (CQNEWS) The Chongqing Municipal Commission of Urban-Rural Development stated on Monday that Chongqing’s unique ‘straddle type’ monorail technology has now been installed worldwide and can be seen in Korea, Brazil, Beijing, and Guizhou. The city is currently negotiating with a number of other countries including Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Pakistan concerning monorail technology cooperation. Figures from H1 suggest that outside demand for ‘straddle type’ monorail infrastructure amounts to over 400km.

In July 2006, the opening of Chongqing Lightrail’s Line 2 marked a new age of city transit, and by 2013, the mileage of Chognqing railway reached 170km. Data showed daily passenger numbers exceeded 1,300,000 people and transit by Lightrail accounted for 22% of public city transportation. It’s estimated that by 2020, the number of passengers per day will surpass 3,200,000 and the proportion of transit by Lightrail will increase to 40%.
