BUENOS AIRES, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The father of Argentine footballer Carlos Tevez was released Tuesday, following the payment of "millions in ransom," family lawyer Gustavo Galasso said.

Segundo Tevez was freed a little before 2 p.m. local time (17:00 GMT) in the town of Marcos Paz, 48km west of the capital Buenos Aires, eight hours after he was seized by kidnappers.

Galasso said the father of the Juventus (Italy) player "is alright," but declined to give further information due to the ongoing investigation.

Argentina's state news service Telam cited National Security Secretary Sergio Berni as saying "a ransom was paid," though he didn't reveal the amount.

Berni did say, however, that authorities will look for the kidnappers "even under the bed."
