BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Jason P. Lester, an ultra-endurance athlete, author and winner of ESPN's 2009 ESPY "Best Male Athlete" Award, started his new mission at Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu Province at 8:00 on Aug. 8, 2014.
This time, the unstoppable athlete will run the entire Great Wall within 100 days. Running eastward more than ten hours each day, he will cover about 6,700 kilometers before he finally reaches the Shanhaiguan Pass in Hebei Province.
Over the past twenty years, the American athlete, whose right arm got paralyzed when he was 12, has spent nearly all of his time running, except for eating and sleeping. He is the ambassador of the Mission 5 Million China Run charity project.
Lester is the first disabled athlete to complete the Ultraman World Championships in 2008. In 2013, he ran 3,550 miles across the United States in 72 consecutive days. Lester has been preparing to run the Great Wall for three years.
