Chongqing, the bridge capital of China

2019-09-26 14:31:01

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing is not only a mountain city, but also a river city with numerous mountains and rivers in. Since the Founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, diligent Chongqing people have accelerated the construction of bridges with a hard-working spirit of cutting paths through mountains and building bridges across rivers. Since the construction of Chongqing's first cross-river bridge, Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge, started in December 1958, a large number of river-crossing bridges with various world records have been built between the north and south of Chongqing, not only allowing citizens to cross the two rivers at will, but also making the area connected by bridges become a new economic growth point. Bridges have become the witness of the rapid development of the city's construction.

There are 14267 highways, railways and municipal bridges in Chongqing. Due to the large number of river-crossing bridges, large scale, high technical level, diversities and strong influence of bridges, Chongqing was officially recognized as China's "bridge capital" by the Mao Yisheng Bridge Commission Annual Meeting in 2005, with a number of world records.

In recent years, Chongqing Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Commission has vigorously promoted the construction of urban infrastructure and accelerated the construction of river-crossing bridges and mountain-crossing tunnels. At present, there are 46 river-crossing bridges in the main urban area of Chongqing, including 20 Yangtze River Bridges and 26 Jialing River Bridges.

Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge, the largest arch bridge in the world, has a main span of 552 meters and a length of 932 meters. The bridge is the largest span arch bridge in the world at present and the largest bearing capacity spherical support in the world at that time. The maximum plate thickness used in the main truss structural components is up to 80 mm, which is the thickest steel truss (arch) bridge in China.

The Chongqing Yangtze River Double-line Bridge is the world's largest beam bridge. The main bridge adopts the steel-concrete composite continuous rigid frame - continuous beam structure system, with a total length of 1103.5 meters and a main span of 330 meters, which is the largest span of the same type of beam bridges in the world at present, and advanced in design compared with similar bridges.
