According to statistics released by Chongqing Customs last Thursday, the city's export leading indicator, which already saw a 0.4 increase from February to April, stood at 41.9 in May, up by 0.2 from the previous month, indicating a clearer upward trend for the city's foreign exports in the coming period.

The import and export data made public on Thursday shows that Chongqing's trade with the European Union, the United States, ASEAN and Japan was on the rise in the first five months of 2014.

Figures also show that the structure of Chongqing's foreign trade is trending in the right direction. The proportion of general trade continued to grow in the first five months this year, accounting for 55.1 percent of the total trade volume, up 4.9 percentage points over the same period of last year, whereas the percentage of processing trade decreased by 1.1 percentage points from last year's 32.6 percent.
