As rescuers race against time to save lives in quake-hit Yunnan Province, Chongqing has mobilized the first batch of relief supplies to the quake area.

The local government said that the first batch had already arrived at quake-hit areas this afternoon, including 600 folding beds, 600 tents, 600 quilts, thousands of instant noodles packs, 900 torches and bottled water. The blocked roads meant thousands of armed police, firefighters and soldiers carried the goods by hand. The continuous downpour made the situation worse as trucks with relief supplies were unable to access the disaster areas.

Authorities have so far allocated 100 trucks of relief supplies. The Vice-director of Civil Affairs Beareau of Ludian city said that they are still experiencing a severe shortage of drinking water, instant noodles quilts and tents.(CQNEWS)
